Very large wooden panel used as a screen depicting on one side the god Daikoku (god of abundance) carrying on his back the giant mallet near a child playing with a kestrel. The decorations, although large in size and high relief, are very fine, in gold lacquer and polychromy with ivory inlays. The second side represents a hanging basketwork vase as well as birds in flight. The whole in ivory and bone very finely chiseled. The panel rests on an original base nicely sculpted. Signed in a  mother of pearl cartridge. Origin: Japan. Very light cracks and restorations not detrimental to the overall quality. Period: Meiji late 19th century. Dimensions: 112xH144cm. (44"xH56") excluding width of the stand.
