Kogo (incense box) round shape on black lacquer (ro-iro) with a very meticulous taka zogan decoration of a pavilion on a rock. The pavilion is represented with a terrace whose balustrade is composed of ivory posts. The door is decorated in mother-of-pearl and shows a landscape with a character on a bridge over a river. She slides and discovers a sitting scholar. Remarkable work of finesse and meticulousness. The interior is in red lacquer. Several slits and lifting of lacquer are visible in the photographs but do not alter the quality of this piece. Provenance : old Louis Gonse collection. Signed under the base in gold lacquer and seal in read lacquer
