Biography :
– He entered the School of Fine Arts in 1863. He had Léon Cogniet as his first teacher, then Isidore Pils the following year.
– He exhibited for the first time at the Paris Salon in 1868 with a subject taken from the Bible.
– On April 9, 1892, he was named a knight of the Legion of Honor.
– he illustrated the works of great French writers such as Voltaire, or Honoré de Balzac — The Chouans, Memoirs of Two Young Brides, The Thirty-Year-Old Woman, Z. Marcas, The Shagreen Skin, The Other Side of Contemporary History — or even the Memoirs of a Volunteer by Anatole France (1902). He illustrated Her Highness the Woman (1885) by Octave Uzanne for Maison Quantin.
– He was a member of the French Society of Watercolourists
