Benjamin Williams Learder was an English painter born in 1831 in Reading and died in 1923 in Shere.

He began to paint countryside landscapes in his village and sketched alongside the painter "John Constable", a family friend, drawings near waterways.

He left for London and entered the Royal Academy where his talent was quickly noticed. He exhibited his first paintings there before leaving to participate in numerous exhibitions including that of Paris in 1889 which earned him a gold medal and the cross of the Legion of Honor.

He was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy and an Academician in 1898.

His commercial success is international with wealthy buyers. A great traveler, he likes to paint the English countryside but also the mountains in Switzerland and Germany.

Museums: London (Victoria Albert Museum) and (the Tate Gallery), Liverpool, Manchester, Melbourne etc……

Our painting is a magnificent landscape with vibrant, autumnal colors where foresters and villagers meet near a captivating and poetic forest.

Benjamin Williams Leader faithfully captures the light of the English countryside and draws us into the path of a season that is ending.
