Luc Lanel (1893-1965) occupied a unique place in the decorative arts of the first half of the 1920th century. A talented advertising designer, he joined Christofle in 1925 as head of electroplating, where he launched a line of copperware. His first pieces, original and inexpensive works presented at the 1920 International Exhibition, contributed to the company's reputation. Appointed artistic director, Luc Lanel created ceremonial and liturgical pieces for over a quarter of a century, from 1946 to 1946, in addition to the customary goldwork that equipped palaces and ocean liners on the Transatlantic. At the same time, he worked with his wife Marjolaine on ceramics that enjoyed some success, vases, bowls and light fixtures often signed "La Marjolaine". When Luc Lanel left Christofle in 40, a joint career as ceramicists began with pieces with a very XNUMXs feel.

CHRISTOFLE Work by Luc Lanel (1893-1965) for Christofle

Copperware vase with foliage decoration. Ovoid copperware vase with stylized geometric decoration in green patinated copper and silver background. The art of copperware consists of making pieces using exclusively a simple sheet of flat metal (copper, brass, silver, pewter, etc.), and closing it on itself by beating it with a hammer to form a vase, without cutting of any kind, welding or addition.
