Bronze altar crucifix in the Neo-Gothic style. Its base decorated with cabochons imitating ruby and amethyst. It is supported by lion-shaped feet. The four lions supporting the crucifix symbolize (in the Middle Ages) the many magical powers of Christ and his divine nature. The patibulum (transverse part of the cross) is also decorated with cabochons imitating amethyst.
This crucifix is part of the beautiful Neo-Gothic style production carried out under Napoleon III.
Cabochons and lions are typical ornamentation of the medieval style.
