An interesting production from the Empire period, with this elegant and large sofa also called Paumier, in mahogany and mahogany veneer.
Our sofa or Paumier has been re-covered with a beautiful yellow fabric in the style of the period.
Sofa dimensions: Height 98 cm – Length 157 cm – Seat depth 72 cm and Seat height 51 cm.
In very good condition. Newly covered.
The Paumier is a three-backed sofa mentioned in the periodical “Magasin des modes nouvelles françaises et anglaises”. On April 30, 1787, it is reproduced and captioned “Sofa with three backs, otherwise known as Sofa in Paumier. This piece of furniture is placed in a bedroom in winter near the fire to read or rest. This seat is of the latest taste.”
Jacob-Desmalter in his memoirs calls it: Tête à Tête or Sleeper.
