Fernand Allard l'Olivier was born on July 12, 1883 into a family of artists in Tournai. His father Charles Allard and his uncles all drew and owned a lithography workshop.

He entered the Julian Academy in 1901, taught by Bougurezu and Jean-Paul Laurens, then by Jules Adler.

He lived for a time in Paris then travelled to Europe and later to Africa, it was in Gongo where he lived for many years that he died in 1933.
