Biography :

Louis-Claude Malbranche: September 2, 1790 in Caen – November 4, 1838 in Caen was a French lithographer and painter of landscapes and seascapes.

It is through its snow that Malbranche has acquired the most reputation; he especially has the merit of having overcome, as far as possible, the difficulty and the monotony of the subject. In other parts of the landscape, some critics reproached him for being too easy, which must perhaps be attributed to his need to sell. Be that as it may, his snows have an incontestable superiority over all that has been done, in this genre, by French painters, and put him next to the good Flemish painters.
