Superb bronze mirror with a golden patina and polychrome plant-like enamel decoration, French work from the Giroux house, second half of the 19th century. XIXth century.

This object of great finesse, both technical and aesthetic, bears witness to the very particular taste which takes hold of the XIXth century, more precisely in the case of our work around 1860-1870, for eclecticism and the art of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

The famous Alphonse Giroux house in Paris, known as "the merchant of princes" specializes in luxury furniture and accessories intended for a demanding and wealthy clientele of aristocrats and upper middle class. Founded in 1799 and located at 7 rue du Coq Saint-Honoré then Boulevard des Capucines in Paris by the eponymous artist (1776-1848) then taken over by his sons from 1867 until its final closure in 1885, it deploys its skills and all its know-how in various pieces of decorative arts, the boxes, candlesticks and cups, among others, like our mirror are immediately recognizable and have inspired other manufacturers, establishing themselves as a style in their own right. These pieces find their inspiration in the shrines and reliquaries of the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries, but also with elements of architecture, sometimes Gothic, sometimes close to the Bellifontaine aesthetic, in the reuse of certain ornamental motifs.

Our object then perfectly reflects this know-how and the refinement coveted by the aesthetes and buyers of the time but which will undoubtedly touch the contemporary enthusiast.
