Very fine pair of porcelain dogs in the style of Meissen pugs. Each bears the apogryphal mark of the famous German manufacturer, which allows them to be attributed to Samson, as well as to date them from the end of the XIXth century. Indeed, strong in the success of Saxon productions in the XVIIIth century, Samson, never ceases to reinvent and perpetuate this delicate art. This interest in ceramics is sometimes accompanied by an influence from the Far East, to design sinicizing works that make their success at the universal exhibitions of 1867 and 1889.
Placed on terraces in the shape of coats of arms and richly flowered, the two animals contemplate each other. Subtle differences, like the colors of the collars, allow to nuance the apparently perfect symmetry of this pair.
