Oil on canvas signed and dated lower right: E. Ballue, 1881
Beautiful pair of forest landscapes painted with great finesse and sensitivity, characteristic of the French landscape school of the XIXth century.
One of the paintings depicts a forest path bathed in light, animated by a solitary walker; the other illustrates a bucolic riverside scene, where a young figure stands at the edge of the path. The treatment of light, the precision of the foliage, and the serenity of the compositions demonstrate Émile Ballue's talent for capturing the essence of nature.
Both works are presented in their original, richly carved giltwood frames, in very good condition.
