Philips Wouwerman (1619-1668): Dutch painter and engraver, baptized in Haarlem on May 24, 1619, and died in the same city on May 19, 1668, Wouwerman was one of the most prolific and versatile artists of the Dutch Golden Age. His influence on Dutch painting of the XVIIThe 19th century was a major one, and his works, highly prized during his lifetime, enjoyed an even greater surge in popularity in the following century, particularly in the courts of Louis XVI and Charles IV. Today, his paintings are featured in the most prestigious European collections, such as those of the National Museum in Warsaw, the Louvre, the National Gallery in London, the Musée Fabre in Montpellier, the Wallace Collection, the Bemberg Foundation in Toulouse, and the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nantes.
