Our Swiss pine sculpture depicts a strong man, one foot resting on a rock, holding an open book in one hand. We can surmise that he held something else in his other, slightly open hand. Who could this saint be? Paul, who has lost his sword; Philip, without his cross; or perhaps Saint James the Greater, without his pilgrim's staff? The question remains open, adding to the beauty and refinement of our formerly polychrome sculpture.
