Sculpture in white Carrara marble, depicting a bust of a young woman, adorned with floral decorations, by the famous Italian sculptor, originally from Volterra, Vittorio Pochini (1860-1908).
Vittorio Pochini rejects the constraints of the morals of his time and of realism in his female portraits; the often asymmetrical and off-center composition aims to magnify "Woman".
He represents them in extremely idealized, feminine and seductive forms.
The sculptor draws inspiration from the Art Nouveau movement, which is characterized by ornamentation inspired by fauna and flora, and which relies on the aesthetics of curved lines.
Sculpture titled "Clarife", at the front of the sculpture.
The sculptor's signature "V.Pochini" is on the back of the sculpture.
Old marble, late period XIXth century, circa 1890.
Perfect state of conservation.

Dimensions: 59.5 cm x 40 cm x 17 cm

Vittorio Pochini (1860-1908)

Vittorio Pochini, is a famous Italian sculptor, born in Volterra in Tuscany, on July 7, 1860.

He began his apprenticeship at the Volterra School of Art, then went to Florence to further his studies in sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts.
His ability to create original subjects, breaking free from the neoclassicism of Canova's influence, allowed him to broaden his clientele, attracted by new genres that were no longer limited to the models and images of classical antiquity alone.

The taste for novelty that modernized the sculptural art of Volterra, at a time when production had to meet the demands of the national market, in order to innovate and adapt to new tastes and new production methods, constrained by increasing industrialization.

His best-known works are kept at the Franciscan convent in Piombino, Turin and San Marino.
Through his innovative creations, he helped to make the art of Volterra famous throughout the world.
He received numerous awards and is considered a pioneer of his time.

The Master of Volterra died in Florence in 1908.
