The dog, meanwhile, is standing still, scanning the horizon on the lookout for prey, its senses are on high alert.
The sculptor's signature "MARCEL DEBUT" is incised on the side of the naturalistic terrace.

Marcel Debut (1865-1933)

Marcel Debut is a famous French sculptor and painter, born in Paris on March 27, 1865.

Mr. Debut began his apprenticeship with his father, the sculptor Jean Didier Debut (1824-1893).
He then followed the teaching of sculptors Jules Lefebvre (1834-1912) and Pierre François Marie Boulanger (1813-1891).
He exhibited at the Salon des artistes français, of which he was a member, from 1883 and obtained an Honorable Mention in 1895.

Marcel Debut is considered one of the most important academic sculptors operating in France between the XIXand the 20th century.
Between classicism and explicit realism, he finds an original path.
His style is particularly recognizable, in the precision he brings to the details of his subjects.

Marcel Debut died in 1933.
