Georges STEIN (pseudonym of Séverin Louis Stein), 1864 / 1917 (French, of Luxembourg origin) Urban landscape painter, watercolorist, draftsman and illustrator, he is best known and recognized for his works depicting Paris and its streets, boulevards, squares during the Belle Epoque. He was a student of Jules Lefebvre and Gustave Boulanger. Under the influence of Jean Béraud, he worked in particular on the treatment of light to convey the agitation of Parisian life: his works are imbued with spontaneity, dynamism and movement, thus giving the spectators the sensation of participating in the scenes observed and the activities proposed to the urban public of the Belle Epoque. He also painted views of London, Melun, Vichy, and in Switzerland where he spent his last years, Geneva, Lausanne and Bern. He was a member of the Society of French Artists and exhibited at the Salon from 1912 to 1914. He also produced large decorative panels, including a series of works adorning the casino in the town of Vichy. Museums: Paris, Melun. violondingres.fr
