A Charming French Late 19th Century Biscuit Sculpture After Carriere-Belleuse Signed On The Base. Sold

The sculpture depicts a beautifully executed nymph dressed in a flowing fabric period dress, she is surrounded by two naked puttis, she holds her arms above her head.

Albert Ernest Carriere-Belleuse (12th June 1824 – 4th June 1887) was a French sculptor and one of the founding members of la société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and was made artistic director at the manufacture nationale de Sèvres in 1876.

His work emcompassed all manner of sculptural subjects and materials, and his naturalism incorporated a breadth of styles :
Unembellished realism, neo-baroque exuberance and rococo elegance.
