Ce groupe réunit sur la même terrasse , le Lévrier à l'éventail nommé " PLOCK " et le Chien King Charles , édités séparement et qui constitue le pendant du Groupe de deux levrettes jouant à la boule .
"Plock" est avec "Diego" , un des deux rares portraits de lévriers mâles réalisés par Mêne qui a peu représenté cet animal .
Le King Charles , petit animal d' agrément à poils longs et sombres du groupe des épagneuls nains , est un type de chien qu' affectionnait particulièrement le Roi Charles II d' Angleterre , auquel il doit son nom .
Au milieu du XIX ème siècle , il était à nouveau très recherché dans la société anglaise et en France . Pierre - Jules Mêne s' inscrit dans cette vogue et propose ainsi ce modèle .
Sa réalisation précède celle du Lévrier "PLOCK" , second élément constitutif du Groupe " Lévrier et King - Charles " .
Le groupe du lévrier et du King - Charles se rencontre moins que celui des Levrettes , dans une proportions bien inférieure , de un à cinq environ .
Dans l' oeuvre de Mêne , le chien est l 'animal aimé et choyé , étudié et représenté plus que tous les autres .
Si la chasse est l' axe de son oeuvre , le chien en est l' élément constitutif par excellence .
Dans la sculptures animalières , Mêne est l' artiste qui nous a laissé le plus de modèles de canidés , tous parfaitement traités d'une manière réaliste , et représentés avec une vérité artistique et une rigueur anatomique qui ne faibliront pas au cours des années .

This group brings together on the same terrace , the Greyhound with a fan named "PLOCK" and the Dog King Charles , published separately and which constitutes the counterpart of the Group of two greyhounds playing bowls .
"Plock" is with "Diego", one of the two rare portraits of male greyhounds made by Mêne who did little to represent this animal .
The King Charles , a small pleasure animal with long , dark hair from the group of toy spaniels , is a type of dog particularly fond of King Charles II of England , to whom it owes its name .
In the middle of the 19th century , it was again highly sought after in English society and in France . Pierre-Jules Mêne is part of this vogue and thus offers this model .
